A lot of network marketing companies recommend that you start a website or blog of your own. If they offer you a cookie-cutter site, it’s best to decline if you can because you will be able to do a lot better on your own. Why would you want a site that looks like hundreds of others anyway?
Did you seriously consider signing up for a company provided website because you were scared of the technical side of building your own blog or website?
Years ago, it was a challenge to build a functioning, attractive website. You had to learn HTML and have a number of other technical skills. That no longer applies. Take a look at what WordPress.org has to offer. It’s hard to believe that you can have a fully functioning blog or website up and running in less than a couple of days. If you have HTML coding skills that’s a plus but everything is WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get), so if you know absolutely nothing about coding languages, it doesn’t matter one bit. With WordPress you can add videos, photographs, podcasts, graphics and advertisements with ease.
All you need is a domain name which cost under $10 and monthly hosting which can be as little as six dollars.
But here’s the Hard Part…
It doesn’t matter if you opted for the cookie-cutter website your company offered or you decided to build your own site, the hardest part of having a successful blog or website is marketing it.
There are probably 100 million websites and blogs online today and a proportion of those are going to be your competitors. Before you even think about starting your own blog, you must sit down and plan and also spend a considerable amount of time learning all the aspects of internet marketing.
There are many courses that you could purchase that will tell you everything about how to market online. Some of these are good but most are a waste of money. You can find all the information you need online for free.
Yes you will have to buy tools as you go. You will definitely need to subscribe to an autoresponder service which you can pay for monthly. Part of promoting your network marketing business will be via email. An autoresponder service will help you organize your subscribers and keep in touch with them regularly.
There are dozens of different plug-ins that come with WordPress and many are free. Your site must be optimized so that search engines will find you and bring you “organic” or free traffic and there are free SEO plugins to help.
You’ll also need to do keyword research to find out which are the best keywords for you to use. Using Google’s keyword tool costs nothing and will give you plenty of ideas for keywords. And you will need hundreds of them.
Once you have attracted traffic to your site you’ll want people to keep coming back so one of the most difficult parts of having a blog is knowing what kind of content to put on there to keep your visitors interested.
In the network marketing industry the way you make money is to build a successful downline team. Having a blog means you will be able to not only attract leads but keep in touch regularly with your team. You can offer training courses online as well – it’s really not as difficult as you may think.
So the bottom line is you don’t need to know the technical stuff – you’ll need to know how to market effectively.
