Why Saying Thank You Goes a Long Way

Say ‘Thank You’

It’s very easy to overlook basic manners especially when doing business online. Good manners say a lot to me, especially when someone has done something for me and that’s why sending Thank You emails – or Texts – can mean a lot to people. If you use an autoresponder service – which you absolutely should when doing business online, it only takes a minute to set up an automatic response that says Thank You to customers who join your email list, or make a purchase.

I Acknowledge your Action – Thank You

Whenever someone does something on your website, whether it’s join your mailing list, subscribe to your newsletters – whatever – your automated response should include a few lines that say Thank You for your business, or for subscribing. Just by this very action, whether your response is automated or not, it shows the recipient that you care, helps to start a relationship and says to them they’re not just an address on a list.

Make Your Response Share-able

By composing a thoughtful email message the recipient may be spurred into sharing your email with their friends and family. The email should briefly state the details of your transaction(s) and if the recipient is happy with their purchase, or they love your newsletter or eBook they may forward it on. With the email explaining clearly what that transaction was, it can be shared through programs such as Pingler.com or with any social network sites you participate in. Be professional and friendly.

One of the main reasons for saying thank you is to build trust and show you respect your subscriber. You should, she has many other choices! If she has ordered a particular product, you could also take the opportunity to recommend related products that she might like. Don’t overdo it though, and make sure those products are an exact fit. Statistics prove that emails which include related products have higher conversion rates than with a separate campaign promoting those products.

Be Personable

If someone has already been in contact with you about your product and you have answered her questions, you’ve already built a relationship. You can go one step further by writing a customized thank you email. Successful marketing is not about selling products primarily, it’s about helping people come to a decision, so that customized email will set you above many other sellers and impress the recipient.

Thank You Emails Mean More Opportunity

If someone has made a purchase from you and received a nice Thank You note from you, the chances are they won’t delete your email. When the product arrives and they are satisfied or find it useful, they may refer back to your Thank You email to look at your recommendations. This is part of the relationship building process and works extremely well. People report very high conversion rates for products promoted via Thank You emails.
