Limiting Beliefs – How They Can Destroy Your Business

Most people know that they want to be successful, but when it comes down to deciding to start a business, that’s when limiting beliefs start nagging away at the back of their minds. If you’re a true entrepreneur then you’re lucky, you dispel all those doubts immediately and get on with the job.

Limiting beliefs are very often put into our heads during childhood and are very difficult to shake. Although limiting beliefs are said to be self-imposed, I believe they come from mental “programming” in childhood. “You can’t do that it’s too difficult,” “Little Jane is only five, soccer is too rough – it’s a boys’ game anyway.” Those kinds of sayings mean that eventually we believe that certain things really are too difficult for us and Jane never gets the opportunity to play in the US women’s soccer team.

If you’re one of those people, then as soon as you come across something you can’t do, you’re not going to try and you’ll give in. Don’t, you’re not alone; there are millions of people just like you. Start thinking positively and believing in yourself!

People who want to start their own businesses online often have these self-limiting beliefs:

I Can’t Afford it

You need $10 for a domain name, monthly hosting costs about $6 a month and $19 a month will get you the best autoresponder service on the planet. So that’s an initial outlay of $35 to start a potentially successful business!

Most of the people I know spend more than that on overpriced cups of coffee in a month. That’s all you need to get started. If you’re that badly off you could even do without the autoresponder service for a few months. Of course over time you’ll find there are other things you’ll need so as you start making money you reinvest what you make to build your business up and make it more efficient.

I Don’t Know What to Write About

I understand what writer’s block is but there is a difference between writer’s block and lack of initiative. You’re on a computer with internet access – you can get information about anything. If you don’t know what to write about look at what other people are writing about, it’s easy. Inject your personality into what you write and you’ll end up with a unique piece of writing. Simple. You will have to write for blogs, articles, Ezines etc. and some people really do hate writing. If you look around on places like the you can get someone else to do it for you and it’s cheap!

I’ll never be as successful as He is

No you won’t, if you sit on your backside and whine all the time! Do you really think that successful network and internet marketers got where they are today by doing nothing? If you see someone in your line of business that is a big success then follow him, get tips about how they run their business and emulate what they do. People have got better opportunities to make money online than they have ever had before.

Don’t be an envious imitate! There are people in the network marketing business who are only too willing to share their secrets and techniques with the world – they earn enough money, now they’re happy to help you.

But I Don’t Know How to Build a Website/Blog

Good grief. My five-year-old grandson could build a WordPress blog, the content would be a little unusual but technically it would look great. There really is no excuse on this front. There are forums and blogs, software and technical help everywhere. The company I host my blogs with are amazing. If I don’t know how to do something they will walk me through it or do it for me free of charge.

The days of building websites with complications and costly software such as Dreamweaver are gone. You can have a WordPress blog up and running in under 30 minute, I know I’ve done it.

I Can’t Help Other People!

Why not? I admit that there are people out there who are so self-absorbed they probably couldn’t help anyone. All you really have to do is answer questions, write helpful articles and show people the advantages of joining your opportunity and buying your product. You really don’t have to be a salesperson online – the people that find your website and opt in are already interested in your product! Network marketers need qualified prospects like that every day and if you can attract them then you will have a thriving business.

But I don’t have the Experience!

I admit this is a difficult thing, but I’m a great believer in the “fake it till you make it” idea. That’s the beauty of the internet, nobody really knows who you are.

The only way to get experience doing anything, whether it’s growing orchids or building brick walls is to do it, and the best way to do it well is to get the right training. Ask people for help if you don’t know the answer to something – and remember there is no such thing as a stupid question.

The only reasons why I would advise somebody not to get into network marketing would be if they hate being around people or they are lazy – the latter are never going to be successful at anything.

You have nothing to lose – oh except about $25 a month – you can’t get a refund on a domain name. Like Nike says, just do it.
