As a network marketer you are an entrepreneur, and an entrepreneurial mindset necessarily has to be different from that of people who work a normal 8 to 5 job. Most of them have little hope of achieving higher status in their job, the only hopes they have is getting a pay raise that just might keep up with inflation. A few may move up the ladder and get managerial positions because they show some kind of spark, or they pay to study and educate themselves in order to gain more qualifications.
Entrepreneurs are different. They know that what they put into life is what they get out, especially where their business is concerned. In network marketing, if you can’t stand being rejected, if you haven’t got the strength to go through weeks without a sale, if you can’t be bothered to learn more about your business, your product, and how to sell successfully, then you might as well not start.
Love What you Do
With the thin job market today, most people are taking any job they can get to pay the bills. But you have chosen to start your own business and go out on your own. There are a number of important steps and research you should do before joining a network marketing company, and one of the most important is finding something you are passionate about.
Selling a product effectively means you have to be passionate and knowledgeable about that product and your company. If you chose a product that you’re not interested in, you will never be able to convince a prospect to buy it. Be passionate and love what you do. Okay, some people can sell anything, but chances are you’re not one of them.
The last thing you should do at night is make a list of things you have to do the next day. Put anything you really don’t want to do at the top of the list. Yes, really. If there’s someone you don’t want to talk to on the phone, call him first. You will be amazed how the rest of your day feels – you’re not carrying that burdensome task around with you all day. You will feel a huge sense of achievement when you do the worst things first. If you need to get leads, make it a point to get a set amount every day but be realistic. Set yourself financial goals too and keep reminding yourself why you’re doing what you’re doing. Entrepreneurs do not become successful without plans and goals, and they also don’t try to fool themselves. If you want to get ten leads today, call twenty people, call fifty until you reach your goal.
If you are in network marketing, chances are there are dozens of other people out there all trying to get the same slice of the pie. So how do you get to the pie first? Easy – by using your personality.
Look at Tupperware. Years ago women had Tupperware parties to make money. Who made the most money? The women that had the best parties! They were the most fun and entertaining, and the parties became networking opportunities – the product was secondary.
Sell your personality before your product, be knowledgeable, have fun, and people will become attracted to you – both prospects and people who will want to join your team. If you’re not happy and positive – who on earth would want to join your team? Even if you’re flat broke, create an illusion of success, and pretty soon you will be successful. Stay positive.
Invest in your business – Outsource and Automate
As you start to make progress, you may soon find you are doing many mundane tasks that are eating up your time. If you’re not good at doing something, learn to automate and outsource. All successful entrepreneurs recognize their own strengths and weaknesses, so you must set up systems to handle what you can’t do yourself. It may be training salespeople, it could be email marketing. There are specialist companies that can help you with everything, leaving you to do what you do best.
Don’t Give Up
When true entrepreneurs hit brick walls, they get up and start again, while the others lie in a crumpled heap and give up. Business is like a marathon with an undefined finish line. There are holes in the road you can choose to either fall into, or jump over.
When you’re starting out it’s very easy to become discouraged – it takes grit and determination to get up the next day and start again as if nothing has happened. The worst thing you can do is bemoan how badly you’re doing to new prospects; it’s an instant turn off. You’re doing great!
If you’re overwhelmed, get someone to help you. If you can’t see a solution to a problem, step back from the problem and have a night out with friends you trust, or talk to your sponsor. You may find that most of the time you will be worrying about nothing – you just can’t see the wood for the trees. Find people who are successful in your business and befriend them or emulate what they do. The most successful people are givers and they will be happy to help you.
It isn’t easy working for yourself, especially if you’ve come from a business environment where you were told every move to make. As an entrepreneur at heart you hated that, so there’s no going back.
Being your own boss is not easy, but with the right mindset and a lot of determination, plans and goals, you will succeed.
