I’ve read a heck of a lot about online network marketing but one thing I realized a few days ago is that compliance is rarely if ever mentioned. Most network marketing company policies have strict rules about using the company name and trademark and a number of other things.
It’s hard to answer specific questions about a particular network marketing company’s policies but they all have them, and you will be well advised to familiarize yourself with them before you start to build a website for your business. If you don’t, you could end up losing your income, or worse – end up in court.
There will always be somebody in charge of compliance at your network marketing company/MLM that you can talk to, and they should be happy to answer your questions and e-mail you any information that you need.
I cannot stress how important it is that you know what you’re doing before you build a site for your business.
When it comes to websites there are different rules for each network marketing/MLM company. For example, some companies will only allow you to use an “approved” website for selling or marketing the company’s products. Many network marketing and MLM companies provide you with a copy of their own pre-made website to use, but one of the worst things about such websites is that nothing on your site will be indexed by the Googlebots because it is all duplicate content that has been published many times before.
Your only chances of getting one of these company websites to rank is if you’re allowed to add optimized and unique written content. These sites are also completely worthless when it comes to prospecting. You can never discuss anything to do with an MLM or network marketing company’s compensation plan or even what is contained in a company’s product package.
In some instances distributors have gone ahead and created their own sites anyway, which is fine as long as they have not mentioned the company’s name anywhere, used any kind of graphic such as the official company logo, or used any company bylines, unique terms or any images from the company’s main website. Some MLM and network marketing companies also go on to say that you can’t even link to the main company website!
Most companies state that an unapproved website, if directly linked to the company site could be cause for action against the distributor responsible. Even use of a domain name that includes any terms that are related to the company’s products or use of the company name within a domain name can cause you to lose your distributorship. This also applies when purchasing Google adwords used in any marketing campaign.
The list of things you can’t do far outweighs what you can do when trying to promote a network marketing company’s products. The reason is for the company’s own protection – there are always unscrupulous people with an agenda for example, especially failed network marketers who feel they’re owed something.
Blogging, methods of marketing the company’s products, techniques that are not allowed for purposes of prospecting – you name it and there’s probably a rule about it somewhere within the compliance department.
So if you’ve ever wondered why you couldn’t find the answer to questions about a company’s compensation package online, there’s your answer. If you’ve wondered why you’ve never seen a company’s logo on any network marketer’s site, there’s the answer. If you did, then somebody is probably breaking an important compliance rule – make sure you’re not about to do the same thing.
Have you ever studied the compliance rules of your network marketing company? After reading this are you still certain you are in compliance with the rules?
